On the other side of the central market square ("La
Place Aux Herbes") to the previously described cottages,
you will discover a fascinating pair of streets which circumscribe one
of the oldest parts of Uzès: la Rue de la Petite Bourgade and la Rue de
la Grande Bourgade. "Bourgade" means "small
town" and this area was once an almost independent village within a
village - hence the curious name. Here, just a
few steps down the cobble stoned Grande Bourgade, you will discover an
unpretentious double entrance door which leads into a grand
17th stone building with an vaulted foyer,
central courtyard and turret.
La
Bourgade , the twin to La Résidence,
previously described, has beautiful stone walls, high oak-beamed ceilings and
a well
appointed decor and fittings. This charming apartment and is an ideal base
for a couple (with the occasional visitor) who wish to enjoy the wonderful
atmosphere and village life. |
